There are many things for almost every type of student to stay busy with at Gustavus. Sporting events, campus concerts, St. Peter festivals, and campus groups provide plenty of entertainment. Yet, Gustavus students are fortunate because Mankato, a city of around 50,000 people, is a mere 12 or so miles from GAC. Mankato offers a bigger shopping scene, nice parks and lakes, and exciting concerts.
For example, tonight I am excited to be going to a Mason Jennings Concert. Mason has produced some great music, and usually plays guitar while providing unique vocals. Check out his website here, or listen to some of his music on YouTube.com.
Mason will be playing at The Underground Bar and Grill in Mankato tonight. His show starts at 9:30, and should be a wonderful time.
Other events that I have attended in Mankato included a Pow-Wow, canoeing the Blue Earth River, and playing mini-golf. Mankato provides supplementary activities to Gustavus students, and I am happy that the city is so close.
