Hollingsworth Field Posted on March 12th, 2009 by

Gustavus recently finished construction on a brand new football facility on campus.  The complex, named Hollingsworth Field, is an impressive stadium for fans and athletes alike.

The new football field has been well received by nearly all Gustie students.  Aesthetically, it is very pleasing and it is functional too.

What I have been surprised by is how useful the field has become for club sports.  I am a member of the Ultimate Frisbee team at Gustavus, and we often struggle to find outdoor playing space during the early spring because any use of frozen fields woud result in a muddy mess.  However, Hollingsworth is a synthetic field, meaning that it can be used much earlier in the spring.  This translates into additional, much needed practice time for Ultimate, Lacrosse, and Rugby club sports teams.

The ice/snow storm of yesterday curbed our efforts to practice outside in the immediate future, but I am still thankful that Hollingsworth field is a facility open to all sports teams at Gustavus.  It is an amazing resource.
