No, I’m not talking about the holiday season. I’m talking about application review season! If you send in an application to Gustavus, every word of it will be read by a real, live person. That means hundreds and hundreds of application essays about some really wonderful experiences. I thought I would share a bit of the variety with you. In the last two months, I’ve read about:
*a student with life-threatening allergies to nuts, eggs, and other foods, who is now a national spokesperson for teens with food allergies and has lobbied Congress to promote awareness of these issues
*growing up in a house where there were several foster brothers and sisters, three of whom were eventually legally adopted
*participating in People To People trips to Italy and Spain
*embracing the “weirdo” label and flourishing in the Chicago youth and community theater scene
*a Twin Cities-area student giving back to an elementary school in Argentina, where he spent his kindergarten year, by organizing a fundraising effort to provide computers, books, and money for teacher salaries
Future Gusties, you are amazing people. I can’t wait to see the contributions you’ll make here on campus and out in the world!
