What’s your story? Posted on September 14th, 2010 by

Last Saturday morning (8:30am to be exact) all of the admission office employees were asked by one of our newest counselors, Adam Tehle ’07, to plumb the deepest fathoms of our souls in search for our story; not just any story, but the story of how each of us ended up choosing to go to Gustavus. He challenged us to really think about how we each made this important decision and then tell it in the form of a story.

Everyone’s story was unique; some were very touching, some quirky and a few that were downright funny but the one thing they all had in common was a moment of truth, or MOT in Adam speak. Although all of our MOT’s occurred at different times and under different circumstances they all resulted in the conclusion that Gustavus felt like home. Simple as that. When all was said and done and deadlines were being pushed in making our final college choice all we really had to do was click our heels together and chant “there’s no place like home” and we would “magically” be transported to Gustavus, in our minds at least.

We all wanted to call Gustavus our home and we wanted fellow Gusties to be our family – our crazy, sometimes wacky yet loving family that you keep in touch with long after you graduate. Everyone here has a story to tell about how they decided to make Gustavus their home and I know they would love to share it with anyone willing to listen whether you have a couple minutes or a couple hours to spare! For any high school students reading this blog just keep this in mind when choosing a college you truly want to be a part of for the next four years of your adult life and beyond, all you have to do is say “there’s no place like home” and you’ll find a way to get there.
