It’s hard to believe that summer is winding down already, but that means we are so close to having a full and vibrant campus again! We are just days away from it officially being move-in month.
Make sure you’re on track for your first few days of college with the tips in this email. If you can’t find what you need or have questions, check the Get Ready Gusties web page, or visit our email archive to see what you may have missed.

Lofting Your Bed |
|
To loft or not to loft? It’s a personal preference! To maximize floor space, plenty of students use this option and put their desk or futon under their bed. Find out more about the only approved lofts to use at Gustavus. |
- PACKING LIST: Bring a piece of home to Gustavus! Packing a special item from home like family photos, your favorite book, or a blanket can help if you get homesick (which is totally normal).
- GUSTIE LINGO: Plex: noun, the three adjoined residence halls (Sorenson, Gibbs, and North) for sophomores and juniors. The one syllable name is an abbreviation for this housing “complex.”
- UNSPOKEN RULE: Hundreds of students are involved in Christmas in Christ Chapel (“C in C-C”). The week of the event, they’re all grinding in prep for performances while also trying to finish out the semester strong. Be extra nice during CinCC week, and extra forgiving when you or your friends are tired, frustrated, or hangry. (CinCC is worth it!)
- CAF CREATION: On Friday afternoons, you’ll likely see a line in the caf. I recommend hopping in that line, no questions asked. But, if you’re curious, this leads to the best gyro in town! Get it in a wrap, pita, or as a salad (and don’t be afraid to top your creation with pineapple).
- ACRONYM DEFINED: The Campus Activities Office if often referred to as the CAO.
AROUND RING ROAD
- LOCAL GEM: Stop by the St. Peter Food Co-op to find local and hyper-local (within 100 miles) foods and the best deli in town! At the deli, a Gustie favorite is the Chimayo, a sandwich with local Ferndale Market turkey, caramelized onions, red bell peppers, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, and chipotle mayo on toasted sourdough. Yum!
- SECRET SPOT: Looking to stargaze? Head over to the Olin Observatory on top of Olin Hall to test out some telescopes.
- INSTAGRAM: Gusties get more out of college! Meet Charlie Franke ’24: a two-sport athlete, member of the Gustavus Choir, and a summer athletic training intern with the Minnesota Twins!
