TO DO

TO KNOW

HOW TO GUSTIE
  • DORM PACKING LIST: Command Strips! They don’t poke holes in room walls or leave residue, and they are easy to remove at the end of the year.
  • GUSTIE LINGO: Co-ed: noun, now named Norelius Hall. Back in the day, this was the first residence hall on campus to house both men and women. Co-ed is short for co-educational, meaning not separated by gender, so Co-ed refers to the building’s history. Norelius refers to the college’s founder, Eric Norelius. Gusties know the place as both.
  • UNSPOKEN RULE: In the caf, Gusties rarely use a tray. Our students prefer to hone their balancing skills! It does take practice though, so don’t be a hero. Use a tray if it works for you.
  • CAF CREATION: Take two cookies from the bakery and head over to the soft serve ice cream machine to make the ultimate ice cream sandwich.
  • ACRONYM DEFINED: Your First-Term Seminar course is often referred to as your FTS. It’s your introduction to the Gustavus academic experience—literally “From The Start.” (If you forget, that’s A-OK. No one’s going to OMG you about it.)

AROUND RING ROAD

  • LOCAL GEM: Check out Diamond Dust Bakery for the best chicken salad sandwich around! Complete with cranberry wild rice bread, this is a must-try meal in Saint Peter.
  • SECRET SPOT: Opened in 1938, Rundstrom Hall houses 96 Gusties and has a small chapel in the basement.
  • INSTAGRAM: 23% of students at Minnesota’s private colleges are the first in their families to attend college. Meet five first-gen Gusties and learn about their experience at Gustavus.
